My first bird painting, an Eastern Bluebird, may not rival Picasso, but it's a satisfying achievement. After undergoing foot surgery last month, I've found myself mostly confined to a chair due to limited mobility. Attempting jewelry-making proved challenging due to a lack of focus and an absence of readily available supplies. Intrigued by the serene effects of watercolor painting, I decided to give it a try after watching some instructional videos. However, I quickly realized that achieving those soft, flowy effects isn't as easy as it seems. Borrowing paints and purchasing paper, I delved into watercolor painting, discovering that quality supplies are essential for an enjoyable experience. Although not a master, I invested time and money wisely to avoid frustration. My initial attempt at painting bumble bees was encouraging, prompting me to order more paint colors. Moving on to a one-hour tutorial on Michael's website, I chose an easier subject to grasp brush strokes and color mixing. While the fast-paced class was challenging for a beginner, I paused the video at my own pace. Watercolor painting has become a therapeutic and soul-nourishing activity for me. As someone who craves instant gratification, I appreciate finishing a painting in one sitting. The process keeps my mind relaxed, distracting from the pain in my foot and making my recovery more enjoyable. As an added benefit it’s easy to take anywhere.
