The Shared Table: A Dialogue in Metal and Wood is a profound exploration of bridging human divides. Born from the physical friction between fundamentally different materials, this masterwork visually captures the tension and balance of our shared human experience. One side of the sculpture lives as a weathered, organic form shaped by nature and time; the other stands industrial, rigid, and highly structured.
At the center of this dialogue are spoons—ordinary, everyday objects deeply tied to human nourishment, gathering, and conversation. Each spoon carries fragmented words and disjointed language tiles. They do not always match, yet they remain intrinsically connected through intricate wirework and mechanical tension. This striking piece asks a quiet, urgent question for our modern era: What does it mean to keep listening in a divided world? Can the simple act of gathering open the possibility for true restoration?
Craftsmanship & Material Transformation
Grounded in raw craftsmanship and traditional techniques, the foundation of this sculpture is hand-forged from raw structural steel and reclaimed industrial copper, heated and hand-hammered over anvil stakes into receptive, holding arches. A salvaged local slab of Pennsylvania walnut is seasoned and hand-planed to expose the deep, winding narrative of its natural grain. Rather than relying on modern chemical adhesives, the metal, driftwood, and wood elements are structurally married using traditional joinery and hand-peened copper rivets—ensuring each element retains its individual integrity while supporting the other.
